Community Based Outpatient Center at Olympic Medicel Center, Port
Angeles:
In Port Angeles, citizens are working to establish a VA Community
Based Outpatient Center (CBOC) to serve local veterans. Currently, those on the roles must travel to
the Bremerton CBOC. That center is taking no new patients. As a result, vets from Port Angeles not currently
enrolled at the Bremerton Center must now extend their journey by adding a trek across the Sound to the VA
Medical Center in Seattle. Basically, from Port Angeles, counting travel time only, the three hour round trip to
Bremerton increases to a seven hour round trip for each treatment the veteran must have. Vets in the western
portion of the County may additionally endure up to a four hour round trip to travel to Port Angeles. Congressman Norm Dicks has iuntroduced legislation to create a CBOC in Port
Angeles. Click on the link below for details.
109th Congress, 2d Session, H.R. 6359 - "To require the establishment of a Department of Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic
at the Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles, Washington."
