Veterans recognized a need to provide assistance to veterans in need. To
encourage donations, in 1991 the Veterans Service Foundation of Washington was created. It is a IRS tax exempt 501(c)3
public benefit corporation. The VSFW was created by the Washington State Council, in Region 8 of the Vietnam
Veterans of America, to receive contribitions to help fund these programs. Some of the projects are to promote
improvement in the condition and social welfare of the American Veteran; assist disabled and needy American Veterans, their
dependents, and the widows and orphans of deceased American Veterans; improve public perception of the American Veterans as citizens;
bring meaningful relief to American Veterans who suffer from: drug and/or alcohol abuse; exposure to toxic chemicals, PTSD;
homelessness, and joblessness, to name a few. Their website provides the details. Two Chapter 102 officers serve
on the board of the VSFW.
